Transposition

Why Transpose?

1. Transposing Instruments: For some instruments, the note they play comes out as a different sound. For example, when clarinetists play the note C, it sounds like a Bb. In order for many instruments to play together, a composer needs to transpose. 

2. Easier to Perform: Some keys are generally easier to play than others. Most instrumentalists find that playing in keys with many accidentals is more difficult so they will transpose into a simpler key. Additionally, vocalists will transpose songs to put it in their range.
